Gowalla Is Going To Facebook, Confirms The Companies

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

The Gowalla-Facebook deal has been confirmed by Josh Williams in a blog post. Facebook has also released a statement confirming the transaction. The social networking site is also quite clear that the Gowalla service will not be part of Facebook, and says that the “inspiration behind Gowalla will make its way into Facebook over time.” Whatever that means.

Foursquare, Gowalla’s counterpart with the larger user-base, has also released a statement congratulating the Gowalla team on their acquisition.

Josh Williams, (Co-Founder, CEO): About two months ago, my co-founder Scott and I attended F8. We were blown away by Facebook’s new developments. A few weeks later Facebook called, and it became clear that the way for our team to have the biggest impact was to work together. So we’re excited to announce that we’ll be making the journey to California to join Facebook!
