Google unveiled the new Nexus 7 tablets, updating the Nexus line of tablets launched a year ago. The company also launched a Chromecast streaming device, released the Cast SDK for Chromecast, and unveiled the Android 4.3 on Wednesday at an event in San Francisco.
The Nexus 7 is the world’s highest resolution 7-inch tablet, with 323 pixels per inch, says Google. It is 6mm thinner and about 50 grams lighter than its predecessors as well.
Nexus 7 is the first device to ship with Android 4.3, the newest version of Android.
What is new with Android 4.3?
The biggest upgrade to Android JellyBean is multi-user support. With Android 4.3, Google is introducing restricted profiles, which let users limit access to apps and content. For example, restricted profiles enable parental controls, so certain family members are prevented from accessing mature content.
Android 4.3 also supports Bluetooth Smart technology, opening the door to mobile apps that connect to new devices like fitness sensors.
Android 4.3 is rolling out to Nexus devices starting Wednesday.
