Google Reader Will Not Be Available After July

google_readerGoogle is retiring Google Reader, as part of a second round of spring cleaning that is also seeing the demise of Google Building Maker, Google Cloud Connect, Snapseed Desktop for Mac and Windows, and CalDav API, among other services.

Google Reader was launched in 2005, and will be shut down this July. The service has a loyal fan following, but usage has declined over the years, says Google. If you want to export your data, you can use Google Takeout to download a copy.

Google is ending support for the Google Voice App for Blackberry. If you are a Blackberry user, and want Google Voice, try Google’s HTML5 app. Google is also deprecating its Search API for Shopping, which enabled developers to create shopping apps based on Google’s Product Search data.

Google first started spring cleaning in 2011, when it shut down Google Wave, Knol, and Google Gears. Since then the company has closed 70 features or services in an effort to streamline its portfolio.
