FTC Identity Theft Complaints Up 50 Percent – More Than 490,000

“The FTC received more than 490,000 identity theft complaints in 2015, which represents a 50% increase from 2014,” said Scott Gray, vice president of information technology and security solutions at Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions. Lockheed Martin developed IdentityTheft.gov under paid contract with the FTC. The site was launched on January 21, 2016, 116,00 consumers had set up accounts to access their personalized recovery plan in the first three months of the launch. 

Identity.gov allows consumers to report identity theft complaints and access a free, personalized guide to recovery. The site also offers tools which enable identity theft victims to create documents they need to alert police, credit bureaus and the Internal Revenue Service. The site earned the “Impacter” Dynamite Award at the recent ACT-IAC Igniting Innovation awards.
