Microsoft Update Makes XBox Double Up As Media Center

By Lisa Carlin

Microsoft just made it easier for Xbox users to manage and stream content on Xbox. Okay, so you can already download video and music, and stream stuff from your home computers to Xbox, but its much easier now, and has Bing voice search, and content from a whole bunch of new providers. You can also use a Windows Phone to control the Xbox remotely. The free update also launches the first group of custom applications from TV and entertainment content providers on Xbox LIVE.

With Bing on Xbox, you can use voice search to find the content you want on Xbox LIVE. Beginning now and over the coming weeks, Bing on Xbox voice search will initially be available in English in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. for Zune video, Xbox LIVE Marketplace and select content partners. For those who do not have a Kinect for Xbox 360, text search will be available in Xbox LIVE markets.

Xbox 360 consoles are also set to deliver live and on-demand TV shows, movies, videos, sports, music and news. Xbox 360 is building on its catalog of movies, sports, television and music available through Hulu Plus, Last.fm, Netflix, Zune music and video and ESPN, as well as on its existing lineup of TV providers, like the AT&T U-verse TV.
