Facebook Launches New App Center With 600+ Apps

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

Facebook has launched an App Center featuring over 600 mobile and Web apps.  The App Center is available in the Facebook iOS and Android apps, as well as Facebook.com. You can also send apps you find on your computer to your mobile device using a ‘Send to Mobile’ feature. If a mobile app requires a download, you’ll be sent to install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Facebook is encouraging all developers to create an app detail page to appear in search and be eligible for listing in its App Center.

The App Center has started rolling out  in the U.S.  It will be available worldwide in the coming weeks.

This is a rather smart move by the social networking giant. Facebook was always working on an app ecosystem, much like Google (with Android) and Apple (with iOS) was; but bringing all the apps together under one umbrella underlines the scope and reach of the Facebook API. This also pits Facebook much strongly against Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Facebook has been under a lot of pressure to make a few splashes of the kind that help in bring the moolah, after its much-debated and equally deflated IPO debut.
