Facebook has acquired Parse, a cloud app platform for iOS, Android, JavaScript, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and OS X. The transaction is expected to close shortly.

“By making Parse a part of Facebook Platform, we want to enable developers to rapidly build apps that span mobile platforms and devices,” said Facebook in a developer blog post.

Facebook says it will continue to offer Parse products and services, and Parse apps will not have to use Facebook functionality.
