Dish selects VMware for 5G Open Radio Access Network platform

Dish has chosen VMware as the cloud platform to deploy the 5G cloud-native Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN). Along with its telco cloud platform, Dish will also be using VMWare’s cloud infrastructure services, the companies said in a statement.

Dish and VMware have tested and onboarded several cloud-native 5G network functions from multiple software vendors on top of the VMware Telco Cloud, according to the companies.

Running Kubernetes and following cloud-native design principles, this will enable Dish to move and scale workloads within the cloud, said the companies.
