DHS awards BlackBerry seven-year contract for personnel emergency notification system

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has granted BlackBerry a seven-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract.

The contract is aimed at the development and maintenance of a Personnel Emergency Notification System (PENS) called Super Enterprise. BlackBerry will collaborate with American Systems and 4 Points Technology to fulfill the software and services contract for DHS and its various components, says the company.

The DHS plans to use BlackBerry’s AtHoc system for department-wide communication and visibility as a PENS solution for all DHS employees and contractors. BlackBerry AtHoc is a critical event management system used for crisis communications and incident response.
