AWS launches Aurora I/O-Optimized for I/O-intensive applications

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled Amazon Aurora I/O-Optimized, a new configuration designed to improve price-performance and provide predictable pricing for customers with I/O-intensive applications.

Aurora I/O-Optimized allows users to pay solely for their database instances and storage consumption, eliminating charges for I/O operations, says Amazon. The configuration is particularly suitable for I/O-intensive applications like payment processing systems, e-commerce platforms, and financial applications, says Amazon.

Customers have the option to choose between two Amazon Aurora configurations: Aurora Standard or Aurora I/O-Optimized. The Standard configuration is designed for applications with low-to-moderate I/O operations, while the I/O-Optimized configuration offers improved price-performance and predictable pricing for high I/O variability or I/O-intensive applications.

The new configuration is available for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-compatible edition and Amazon Aurora MySQL-compatible edition in most AWS regions, with availability in Mainland China (Beijing), Mainland China (Ningxia), AWS GovCloud (US-East), and AWS GovCloud (US-West) regions coming soon.
