AT&T has launched Digital Life, a home security and home automation system. Digital Life is a digital, wireless home management system, that lets users manage and monitor their homes from their smartphone, tablet or PC.

The foundation of the system is home security, with AT&T-owned and operated, U.S.-based monitoring centers.  AT&T Digital Life also gives customers control over cameras, door locks, lights, thermostats, and small appliances.

The  plain vanilla version of Digital Life includes 24/7 home monitoring, 24-hour battery backup, a wireless keypad, keychain remote, recessed sensors and an indoor siren for $29.99 a month, plus $149.99 for equipment and installation.

Additional options include motion and carbon monoxide sensors, glass break sensor, smoke sensor or takeover kit. Automation packages include a camera package, where users can view live video from inside and outside of the home; and a door package, where users can remotely open doors, among other options.

The first commercial launch markets for AT&T Digital Life include Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Riverside, Calif., San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis and areas of the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. AT&T plans to introduce Digital Life in up to 50 markets by the end of 2013, says the company.
