Amazon Launches In India, Following Junglee

Amazon has launched in India as Amazon Seller Services Private Limited, an Amazon.com company. The Amazon.in marketplace in India, available as a mobile site as well, is accompanied by two seller programs – ‘Selling on Amazon’ and ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’, as well.

Greg Greeley (Vice president, International Expansion, Amazon): We’re excited to get started in India and we will relentlessly focus on raising the bar for customer experience in India.

Starting with Books, Movies & TV shows video products, Amazon.in will introduce additional categories including Mobile Phones and Cameras in the coming weeks.

Amazon.in Book store features over 7 million print books over 200 categories, including fiction, management, children’s books and academic publications.

This is not Amazon’s first foray into the Indian market. In Feb 2012, Amazon launched Junglee.com, enabling retailers in India to advertise their products for free to Indian shoppers.
