Adobe has announced the passing of Dr. John Warnock, the co-founder of the company, who died at the age of 82. Dr. Warnock, along with Dr. Charles Geschke, co-founded Adobe in 1982.
Dr. Warnock’s contributions were significant and transformative, including the development of Adobe Illustrator, the PDF file format, Acrobat, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. His work reshaped how people communicate through words, images, and videos.
President Barack Obama honored Dr. Warnock with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2008. He also received the Computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEEE Computer Society, the American Electronics Association Medal of Achievement, and the prestigious Marconi Prize for his contributions to information science and communications.
Dr. Warnock retired as CEO in 2000 but continued to play a role in the company’s leadership as chairman of the board until 2017. He remained on the board of directors afterward.
Dr. Warnock is survived by his wife Marva Warnock and their three children.
