Accenture has appointed Christopher L. Smith as federal chief technology and innovation officer for its U.S. Federal Services business. He will assume the new position on April 9. Mr. Smith will retire on April 7 from his position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) where he served as chief information officer (CIO) since 2009 and led one of the largest federal government migrations to cloud computing and large-scale data consolidation efforts.
Reporting to Kay Kapoor, who leads Accenture’s federal business, Mr. Smith will be responsible for developing the technology agenda for the company’s federal business and overseeing services provided to federal clients in strategic areas such as secure cloud computing, big data, logistics and supply chain and cost reduction.
Mr. Smith received his bachelor’s and master’s of public administration degrees from the University of South Florida and earned a master’s degree in management information systems from George Washington University. He is also a retired Reserve Air Force communications officer. He resides in Virginia with his wife and two children.
