Yahoo Goes Shopping Again; Buys Xobni

Yahoo_Xobni

Yahoo has acquired Xobni, a company that makes address book plugins, and apps under the Smartr moniker (the name ‘Xobni’ is actually ‘Inbox’ spelled backwards), for a deal reported to be north of $30 million.

Did you ever meet someone who truly ‘gets’ you?  That’s how we feel about Yahoo. The power within every Xobni product is that it responds to how you communicate.  Every day you demonstrate who and what is important to you.  That can benefit not just your inbox or smartphone, but the many services you use.  Yahoo gets that, and they want us to use our platform to make many Yahoo services better for you.

Xobni started off as a pet project by co-founder Adam Smith in a MIT dorm, and has received seed funding from YCombinator, among other investors.

New purchases of premium products are no longer being accepted, says Xobni. If you are an existing Xobni users, here is a list of FAQs on the product and support in the days to come, you may find useful.
