Intel Unveils Supercomputing Technology Stack For Big Data Analytics

Intel shared its supercomputing roadmap for Big Data analytics at the supercomputing conference currently going on in Denver, Colorado. Seagate Launches Windows Server 4-Bay NAS

Seagate has introduced the Business Storage Windows Server 4-bay NAS, powered by a 2.13 GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor combined with Windows Storage Server 2012. Designed for offices or workgroups with up to 50 employees, the 4-bay NAS centralizes storage to allow access, collaboration and sharing of files securely from all computers within a business network, while simultaneously hosting PC backups in one central location, says Seagate. The Business Storage Windows Server 4-bay NAS comes in a range of capacities from 8TB for $1599.99 to 16TB for $1999.99.

Cray Compiler Environment Available For CS300 Line

Supercomputing company Cray has released the Cray Compiler Environment (CCE) on the Cray CS300 line of cluster supercomputers. The CCE is designed to support x86 processors, Nvidia Tesla GPU accelerators and Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. The CCE also supports Cray LibSci, which offers a library of linear algebra solvers that enhances user CPU and GPU application performance based on problem size, and improving productivity for Fortran, C, and C++ programmers. Cray says it will continue to support multiple compilers on the Cray CS300 systems, including compilers from the GNU Compiler Collection, Intel, PathScale and PGI.

Intel Forms ‘Internet Of Things’ Organization

Intel has created a new Internet of Things (IoT) organization within the company. The business division, called the IoT Solutions Group, will combine the Intelligent Systems Group and Wind River organizations. The new organization will be led by vice president and general manager, Doug Davis, who will report directly to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich.

Intel Reports Third Quarter 2013 Results

Intel reported third-quarter revenue of $13.5 billion on Tuesday, with operating income of $3.5 billion, net income of $3 billion, and earnings-per-share (EPS) of 58 cents. The company generated approximately $5.7 billion in cash from operations, paid dividends of $1.1 billion, and used $536 million to repurchase 24 million shares of stock. Intel Capital Invests In Wearable Technology Company Recon

Intel Capital has made a 'significant investment' in Recon Instruments, a Canadian wearable technology company. Recon’s products include Jet, a heads-up display for sports that delivers activity-specific information instantly, directly to the athlete's eye. In addition, Recon recently introduced the Recon Snow2, its fourth generation heads-up display for alpine skiing. With the investment, Recon will accelerate product development, marketing and global sales, says the company.  

Intel Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend

Intel has declared a quarterly dividend of 22.5 cents per share (90 cents per share on an annual basis) on the company's common stock. The dividend will be payable on Dec. 1, 2013, to stockholders of record on Nov. 7, 2013.

Apple Upgrades The IMac Line

Apple has updated the iMac computers with fourth-generation Intel quad-core processors, new graphics, next generation Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage options.     The entry-level 21.5-inch iMac features a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor and new Iris Pro graphics, while the higher-end 21.5-inch model and both 27-inch models feature quad-core Intel Core i5 processors up to 3.4 GHz and Nvidia GeForce 700 series graphics. Microsoft Unveils New Surface Tablets

Microsoft has unveiled two new Surface models, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, along with a new portfolio of accessories. The updated tablets from the Microsoft stable will be available in early November. Here is a quick look at what is changing: Microsoft Surface 2 The 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display renders 1080p video now. The USB port has been upgraded to USB 3.0. Camera resolution has increased, with a 3.5-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel rear camera, both capable of capturing 1080p video. Intel Introduces The Atom C2000 Product Family

Intel has introduced a portfolio of datacenter products and technologies for cloud service providers. The portfolio includes the second generation 64-bit Intel Atom C2000 product family of system-on-chip (SoC) designs for microservers and cold storage platforms (code named Avoton) and for entry networking platforms (code named Rangeley).
