Autonomous vehicles will add $81 billion in new insurance premiums: Accenture

New York topped Silicon Valley in fintech venture financing in Q1 2016

New York received more financial technology ('fintech') venture financing than Silicon Valley, for the first time, during the first three months of this year, according to a new report by Accenture and the Partnership Fund for New York City. According to the report, $690 million flowed to New York and $511 million flowed to Silicon Valley in Q1 2016. Last year, fintech investment in New York tripled to $2.3 billion, accounting for nearly 10 percent of all fintech investment globally. “We are now in a golden age of fintech,” said Robert Gach, Capital Markets managing director for Accenture Strategy and co-founder of the FinTech Innovation Lab. “Venture capital is driving major innovations. Accenture acquires German consultancy service company dgroup

Accenture has entered into an agreement to acquire dgroup, a German consultancy that delivers end-to-end management digital consulting services. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions. The purchase will increase its digital consulting capabilities in the German market, and strengthen the broad range of services Accenture provides to support digital transformation, primarily for retail and consumer goods companies, said the company in a statement. dgroup, which was founded in 2001, employs approximately 60 people and has locations in Hamburg and Dusseldorf.

Accenture hires Kelly Bissell from Deloitte to head Security

Accenture has hired Kelly Bissell as the head of Accenture Security. Mr. Bissell comes to Accenture from Deloitte & Touche, where he headed the global Cyber Risk division for the firm. Previously, he has held various leadership positions with Arthur Andersen, BellSouth (AT&T), Medaphis, and McKesson.

Accenture acquires Israeli cybersecurity company Maglan

Accenture has acquired Maglan, a privately-held Israeli cybersecurity company specializing in offensive cyber simulation, vulnerability countermeasures, cyber forensics and malware defenses. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The capabilities of Maglan will form the core of a future Cyber Fusion Center in Israel, says Accenture. “The growing variety and velocity of cyber attacks today cannot be eliminated with standard off-the-shelf solutions,” said Omar Abbosh, chief strategy officer, Accenture. “Tackling the security problem from the perspective of the hacker is the name of the game." Accenture Buys OPS Rules

Accenture is acquiring OPS Rules, an analytics consulting company specializing in the application of data science in supply chain and operations analytics. Founded in 2012, OPS Rules has offices in Waltham, Massachusetts and Richardson, Texas. OPS Rules chairman David Simchi-Levi, a professor of Engineering Systems at MIT, will join Accenture Analytics, part of Accenture Digital. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Accenture Appoints Arun Sarin To Board

Accenture has appointed Arun Sarin to the company’s board of directors. Mr. Sarin, 61, was chief executive officer of Vodafone from 2003 until his retirement in 2008, and also served as a director of Vodafone from 1999 to 2008. With the appointment, Accenture’s board now comprises 12 directors, 11 of whom are external and independent. Pierre Nanterme, Accenture’s chairman and CEO is the board’s only internal director. Mr. Sarin currently serves on the board of directors of Cisco, Charles Schwab, and Blackhawk Network.  

Amadeus To Acquire Navitaire For $830M

Amadeus, a supplier of IT solutions for the travel and tourism industry, has agreed to acquire Navitaire, a wholly owned subsidiary of Accenture that provides technology and business solutions to the airline industry. The size of the deal is $830 million. Navitaire, which focuses on the low-cost and hybrid-carrier segments of the airline industry and has a global customer base of more than 50 operators, provides revenue-generation and cost-streamlining solutions in the areas of reservations, ancillary sales, loyalty, revenue management, revenue accounting and business intelligence. The addition of Navitaire’s portfolio of products and solutions for the low-cost segment will complement Amadeus’ Altéa suite of offerings for its largely full-service carrier customer base, says Amadeus. Accenture and Microsoft are launching a hybrid cloud solution for Microsoft Azure. Working with Avanade, the companies are co-funding and co-engineering the new platform with hybrid cloud technologies and services for building and managing enterprise-wide cloud infrastructure and applications. Digital Healthcare Funding For Start-Ups Expected To Reach $6.5B: Accenture

Driven by evolving consumer expectations, start-up funding for digital healthcare, such as tele-health or wearable technology, is expected to double in the United States over the next three years, growing from $3.5 billion in 2014 to $6.5 billion by the end of 2017, according to new research by Accenture. According to Accenture, an estimated $2.8 billion was used to fund digital health start-ups last year, growing at an annual rate of 31 percent since 2008. Accenture projects digital health start-up funding will grow to $4.3 billion in 2015, and it is expected to reach $6.5 billion by the end of 2017. Accenture Gets $162M Veteran Affairs IT Contract

ASM Research, an Accenture Federal Services Company, has been awarded a three-year, $162 million contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to support the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Clinical Application and Enterprise Core Services. The VistA Core project work is designed to strengthen and expand veteran healthcare services. Work under the contract enables greater interoperability of systems and healthcare records, and has to comply with strict security standards. ASM also will update VistA’s Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), providing a Web-based access to patient records. Accenture Wins $45M Contract To Spruce Up Healthcare.gov Site

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Accenture a one-year, $45 million contract to continue technical improvements to the health insurance marketplace website HealthCare.gov, launched on October last year. Accenture will provide services to support the marketplace to prepare for open enrollment in October 2014 including 24/7 support of the application, eligibility and enrollment functions, generation and transmission of enrollment forms, and features related to special enrollment periods, among other services. Accenture also will develop new capabilities required for future phases of program implementation. The contractor originally responsible for the website, CGI's contract expires on February 28. Healthcare IT vendor QSSI was put in charge of the website in October.

Tech-Savvy Seniors Seek Digital Healthcare Tools, Finds Accenture

With an estimated 3.5 million U.S. citizens a year expected to reach 65 years-old through 2031, there is more focus on the growing number of tech-savvy seniors (57 percent) who are seeking digital options for managing their health services remotely, according to a new Accenture survey. Although many seniors want access to healthcare technology, such as virtual physician consultations (42 percent) and self-serve tools (62 percent) like online appointment scheduling, research shows only a third of healthcare providers currently offer such capabilities. The growing population of seniors are active online users, as documented by the Pew Internet & American Life Project that shows Internet use between 2000 to 2012 tripled for those 65 and older and doubled among those 50-64 years-old. Predixion Software Raises $20 Million

Predixion Software, a developer of collaborative predictive analytics solutions, has raised $20 million in Series C financing. Predixion's Series C iinvestment includes two new investors, Accenture and GE Ventures. Current investors DFJ Frontier, EMC, Miramar Venture Partners and Palomar Ventures also subscribed to the round of financing along with new investor, Frost Venture Partners. In conjunction with its role in leading the financing round, Accenture will jointly develop a range of advanced analytics solutions for its clients with Predixion.
